History, Motto, Vision, Mission And Core Values

Bennet Etiaba Memorial Schools, Umudim Nnewi, Anambra State was established in the year 1989. The School was established by Her Excellency, Dame Virgy Etiaba KSM, CON, in honor of her late loving husband, Bennet Madubugwu Chukwudifu Etiaba Esq. (BMC), who had died two years earlier (June 1987). .

B.M.C’s love for education informed the vision to establish the school as envisioned by Chief Ben Etiaba FCA. Ben Etiaba thought it will be a good idea to set up the School in his memory and joined by his siblings and mum, the School came to be. To make the School work and through Ben’s efforts, Her Excellency collaborated with Eaton Square Nursery and Primary School in Victoria, South West London, England.

Amongst other Schools that partnered with us in England apart from Eaton Square School in London were, Brandlehow School in Putney, South West London, Wyvil School in Stockwell, South West London, and Puzzle House in Sydenham, South East London.

One of the contributors to this burgeoning collaboration in England was Mrs. Eunice Ebubedike who also lives in London and back home in Nigeria, Mrs. Ifeoma Oyolu (nee Okoli Agwu Agwu), the proprietress of Vicwin Schools, Ikeja Lagos, played a key role in the takeoff of the School. She has remained a faithful sister to B.M.C. and big Aunty to the family.

This School was established with an initial in-take of fifty six (56) pupils in Nursery One in 1989. Based on the need to maintain high standards (which today has paid off), Her Excellency insisted that new classes will emerge as the pupils graduated from one class to the next.

Over the years, the School has benefited from Her Excellency’s immense experience as a seasoned educationist who is skilled at deploying contemporary teaching techniques and aids. She has provided an enabling environment for our teachers to excel in their work, and for the pupils enjoy and take advantage of the facilities availed them in the School.

In the year 1992, the first set of pupils who enrolled for Nursery 1 in 1989 graduated into Primary 1. Prior to this graduation; on the 8th day of August, 1991, the late former Chief Judge of Anambra State, the Honorable Justice F.G.C. Uyanna (K.S.M., K.S.G.), together with the equally late Honorable Justice E.C. Ubaezuonu J.C.A. (Rtd.), (both B.M.C’s contemporaries and friends) laid the foundation stone of the extended Nursery section.

The demise of B.M.C. as he was fondly called by friends and colleague was tragic as nobody expected such delectable man to pass on so early. B.M.C. was an accomplished jurist and legal luminary who believed in education and the power of education.

Being a product of late Chief Benson Okoli’s (Okoli Agwu Agwu) benevolence, BMC had spent a large chunk of his income on the underprivileged, to make sure they accessed education
